Time to Change video: Stand Up Kid

In 2012, Time to Change piloted a special campaign for young people in the West Midlands area, starting with the release of Stand Up Kid, an online film that aims to change attitudes towards mental illness amongst 14-18 year olds.

The film shows teenager Michael coming back to school after being off with depression. Teased by his classmates, he takes a stand against the jokes and tells them what it really means to live with a mental health problem.

The ONS Measuring National Well-being (MNW)

The ONS is currently consulting on the first set of draft national well-being measures. The (MNW) programme was launched in November 2010 to provide a fuller understanding of ‘how society is doing’ than economic measures alone can provide. It started with a national debate on ‘What matters to you?’ to improve understanding of what should be included in measures of the nation’s well-being.

Working Our Way to Better Mental Health: A Framework for Action

This was the first ever public mental health and employment strategy, written for the Labour Government by Dame Carol Black as part of the DWP-led cross government  Health Work and Wellbeing initiative to protect and improve the health and well-being of working age people. Government's new draft suicide prevention strategy launched for consultation.

Consultation on the Government's new draft suicide prevention strategy is open until 11th October 2011 and the final strategy will be published early 2012. The aims of the strategy are to reduce the suicide rate and improve support for those bereaved or affected by suicide.

World Report on Disability

Launched on 9th June 2011 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Bank, is the first ever World report on disability.

Paying the Price: The cost of mental health care in England to 2026

This King's Fund publication is designed to encourage informed debate about the future nature and shape of mental health services in England. The authors suggest that unless the right level of investment in mental health serives is made 'we will all pay the price'  in wasted resources and wasted lives.

Shift website and resources

This link will take you to the main Shift website. Shift  was set up in 2004  to tackle stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues in England. It  built on the mind out for mental health campaign, which ran from 2001 to April 2004 and was part of the National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU). NMHDU and Shift ceased on 31st March 2011.
