Personal well-being in the UK: local authority update, 2015 to 2016

Latest Statistical bulletin on Personal well-being in the UK: local authority update, 2015 to 2016 published 27 September 2016. 

Every year since 2011, a large sample of UK adults aged 16 and over has answered the following 4 questions from which ONS produces estimates of the mean ratings for all 4 personal well-being questions, as well as their distributions. The 4 personal well-being questions asked are:

Poverty and decision-making: How behavioural science can improve opportunity in the UK

third of the UK population spent at least one year in relative income poverty between 2011 and 2014. In this literature review the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) explores how individual decisions in shaping people’s experiences of poverty in the UK and to identify the drivers of these decisions.

  • The Autumn Statement announced £20 million over two years (£5m 2015-16 / £15m 2016-17) to pilot courses to help adults manage mild to moderate mental health problems.
  • We invited bids from directly-funded Community Learning providers (mostly Local Authority adult education services and FE colleges), which developed their proposals in conjunction with local mental health partners.
