Considerations to enable participation in learning

Mental health CPD leadership meeting, 9th December 2011

Really interesting start to the LSIS project on Friday. Great to meet some very committed people from other areas, and especially to hear about their innovative practice. Particularly looking forward to checking out 'Back on Track'.

A couple of things from the session resonated. Firstly, the importance of organisations 'walking the talk' on supporting staff well-being the way we hope to support learners'. How else is transmission of confidence and relaxed learning possible, especially in making music?

Recipe for Success - Advanced Techniques

This extract from the Recipe for Success e-resource contains our initial analysis and conclusions based what we learned by working with the group of FE colleges who contributed to the resource.

Continuing the recipes analogy we had used to review and present different colleges ideas and provision,  we explored key ingredients (or components) that appeared to be shared across all of the colleges and then examined some of the issues that providers are currently facing.

This is a copy of the original questionnaire we sent to colleges who contributed to the Recipe for Success e-resource

Recipe for Success - handout for the questionnaire

Handout listing key influencing factors for internal and external partnerships generated through the literature search undertaken as part of the Recipe for Success project work.  This handout was sent to participating colleges along with a questionnaire.

Use it in conjunction with the questionnaire and recipe template as a tool for planning, team building, staff training or service review.

There are lots of links between food, diet, cooking and mental health and wellbeing. Indeed, providing a discrete life skills course including eating and cooking on a budget was for a time a common  starting point for mental health services and FE colleges to work together. Many learners with mental health difficulties complete catering courses and go on to succeed in working in what is one of the most high work-related stress sectors of all.
