Take Ten People (TTP): blank employability skills and Discovering Potential wheel

The Take Ten People wheel is part of the Take Ten People box set - a collection of resources designed to support:

  • An integrated approach to learning and skills
  • Access to opportunities to improve employability skills for people with mental health difficulties
  • Cross sector local partnership working
  • CPD for local partnerships

Side 1: Employability skills side Image of the skills side f the TTP wheel

The employability skills side of the wheel is an interactive tool that can be used to provide a visual framework for what we mean when we talk about 'employability skills'. It allows worker and client to focus in on the core dimenstions of a single skill, while remaining visually aware of its relationship to the others. It can be used to identify where an individual's employability strengths lie and any areas which need support of futher development. The colour-coding makes it easy to then identify opportunities  for improving  skills  via the toolbox.

The following additional resources support use of the skills side wheel:

  1. The reverse side of the wheel - Discovering Potential
  2. NIACE Employability briefing sheet (2009)
  3. JH Consulting review of Employability Programmes What they are, how they impact on the customer journey, the eligibility requirements and referral options during and at their conclusion (2009)

Side 2: Discovering Potential side

Image of the Discovering Potential side of the TTP wheelThe Discovering Potential side of the wheel provides a framework that enables a worker to support an individual though the process of change. The model has 3 stages (Thinking, getting and keeping) an can be used to support someone through any kind of change. Here, trigger questions are provided for each stage consistent with an Individual Placement and Support approach to employment for people with mental health difficulties.

The following additional resources support use of the Discovering Potential side wheel:

  1. Notes on using the Discovering Potential model
  2. TTP list of useful websites -This resource is in Word format so feel free to update it. We aim to next do so in May 2011 to reflect changes in websites/organisations.

Unfortunately as TTP, and the wheel in particular,  was designed primarily as a tactile hard copy resource it has not been possible to reproduce the skills wheel for electronic dissemination.

Although many of the take TTP resources have now been archived this remains relevant in 2015 and is commended to the #CLMH_pilot projects.
