Mental health CPD leadership meeting, 9th December 2011

Really interesting start to the LSIS project on Friday. Great to meet some very committed people from other areas, and especially to hear about their innovative practice. Particularly looking forward to checking out 'Back on Track'.

A couple of things from the session resonated. Firstly, the importance of organisations 'walking the talk' on supporting staff well-being the way we hope to support learners'. How else is transmission of confidence and relaxed learning possible, especially in making music?

Secondly, how much Equality and Diversity requires an offer of learning in a broad range of styles. For example, creative, informal and personalised learning that focusses on supporting learners to produce original and 'different' work rather than  copying or 'jumping through hoops', can also support an accomodation of 'difference' more widely, in terms of learner background , experience and learning style.

So, rather than assessing songs or performances by matching with approved models and structures, might we assess in terms of originality and authenticity to the learners' experience?
