Blackpool Mental Health Pilot Christmas Awareness Launch and Networking event:

On Monday the 12th December, Blackpool Adult Learning Mental Health Pilot held a Launch and Networking event. Professionals were invited from local services such as health, police, housing, social care; agencies from both the statutory and voluntary sector. Two sessions were delivered throughout the day, with myself and Lynn, initially delivering a presentation about the Mental Health Pilot Project and Wellbeing courses. A previous learner, who now wants to volunteer as an advocate for our project, gave a heart-warming speech about his personal journey with mental health issues and the benefits he gained from accessing our courses. There was an opportunity for a question and answer session. Both sessions were attended by nearly 60 professionals from the local area and nearly 500 course brochures were collected. After the presentation there were mince pies and refreshments on offer to encourage people to network and discuss the project further.

So far we have had fantastic feedback from those that attended, with partners now feeling they have much better awareness about the project and more likely to refer onto our courses. They feel they have a better understanding about how the wellbeing courses can support their service users and how to access the courses. We also made new contacts and positive links with agencies which are going to be followed up in the new year with consideration to developing our courses and project further.

By the end of the working day of the event we had ten new enquiries about our courses from new learners and enquires have remained high throughout the following week -  not sure that is just a coincidence…
