Developing the Expert Learner: Active co-production of learning and the impact on mental health and wellbeing
In 2011/12 LSISdefinition is undertaking two inspiring development projects to improve learning and skills opportunities in FEdefinition for people with a mental health condition.
'Developing the Expert Learner: Active co-production of learning and the impact on mental health and wellbeing' is one of these two projects.
LSIS invited applications from providers to work with at least ten learners with mental health conditions and ten learners who have not declared mental health conditions and has now awarded grants of £3,000 to four providers.
Successful applicants will use the ‘Developing the Expert Learner’ resource which is available on the Excellence Gateway and work with an LSIS associate to provide evidence and material for a case study of the work done and to provide feedback to the associate on their own learning and development that has happened as a result of involvement in the project. The role of the associate is to bring all the projects together, provide on-going support and produce a final report for LSIS
The 4 successful applicants for this project are listed below (A-Z order) with links to their individual project pages:
- HMP Erlestoke in Devizes (Offender Learning provider)
- Skills Solutions in Stockport (Work-place Learning provider)
- Stockton Riverside College (FE College)
- York Adult and Community Education (ACLdefinition provider)
The projects are busy setting up their projects (to start working with learners in January). Soon you'll see them on their MHFEdefinition project pages (and if we can persuade them in forums and blogs) where they will share their plans and progress.
They will use some of the measurement tools that Dan Robotham used when evaluating the Learn 2b project in Northants.
You'll find links to Dan's report and slides for the presentation that he and Sonya Terry gave at the recent 2011 Mental Health in Further Education symposium at: http://mhfe.org.uk/content/wheres-your-evidence
