Blackpool now has a small team of 5 volunteers. They all become involved in the MHFE pilot as learners but have shown exceptional commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to the project during and after their courses.

Since coming into post as the Project Co-ordinator I have been keen to utilise social media as a way of connecting with learners. After following policy guidelines we now have use of numerous social media platforms such as Facebook, Pinterest and a Padlet. Our aim is to provide support and enhance the delivery of our courses and as a medium to encourage progression from our courses.

On Monday the 12th December, Blackpool Adult Learning Mental Health Pilot held a Launch and Networking event. Professionals were invited from local services such as health, police, housing, social care; agencies from both the statutory and voluntary sector. Two sessions were delivered throughout the day, with myself and Lynn, initially delivering a presentation about the Mental Health Pilot Project and Wellbeing courses.

Last week I attended the Fylde Coast Self Care Strategy Workshop at Blackpool Winter Gardens. This event was organised by the public health team. Evidence suggests that self-management education focusing on helping people to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively manage their health is beneficial. Benefits include positive health outcomes, improved social outcomes and improvements in clinical outcomes i.e. blood pressure and mental health.
